10. János SZALÁNCZY was born on 25 January 1813 in Pavlyán (Pavlány), Szepes m, HUN.⁵⁵ There is a reasonable degree of confidence that this is the János Szalánczy who was married in 1834, since he is the only János born between 1808 and 1815 in Pavlyán, and his death record indicates he was born about 1813. Also, he was confirmed in 1829 at age 15. But, in the 1869 census records, his birthdate is given as 1810 in Pavlyán ... which is consistent with the age he gave at his marriage. He died on 18 November 1883 at the age of 70 in Pavlyán (Pavlány), Szepes m, HUN.⁵⁶ He was identified as a widower who lived in Pavlyán house #3 and died at age 70. He was buried on November 20. Mária SZALÁNCZY and János SZALÁNCZY were married on 17 November 1834 in Pavlyán (Pavlány), Szepes m, HUN.⁵⁷ This key marriage is identified with an extremely high degree of confidence. Yet, the bride and groom were listed as 24 and 23-years old respectively, but it seems from other evidence that both added 2 or 3 years to their ages in that record for some unknown reason. Both were from Pavlyán and the record shows they had 4th degree consanguinity -- ie. they were second cousins (having great-grandparents in common).

11. Mária SZALÁNCZY was born on 19 December 1814 in Pavlyán (Pavlány), Szepes m, HUN.⁵⁸ Their is a reasonable degree of confidence that this was the Mária married in 1834. Her death record indicates she was born about 1814, but there were two Mária Szalánczy's born in Pavlyán that year. [The other was the illegitimate daughter of an Ersébet Szalánczy born on 03 March.] Her godparents were György Nadzam and Erse Remias. The common godfather with most of her siblings makes it likely that she was the daughter of Mária Repaszky, though her mother's maiden name was not given on her baptismal record. The death of an older sister, also named Mária, in 1813, gives further credibility to this attribution. She was confirmed in 1829, at age 14. She died on 17 February 1883 at the age of 68 in Pavlyán (Pavlány), Szepes m, HUN.⁵⁹ In the death register, she was identified as the wife of János Szalánczy living at Pavlyán house #3, and that she was 68 years old. She was buried on February 19.
