Fifth Generation22. Mihály SZALÁNCZY was born on 8 August 1785 in Pavlyán (Pavlány), Szepes m, HUN.118 There is no direct evidence that this is the Mihály Szalánczy who died in the cholera epidemic of 1831, but it is the only birth recorded with that name in the general timeframe indicated by the death record. He died on 30 August 1831 at the age of 46 in Pavlyán (Pavlány), Szepes m, HUN.119 The record says he died of cholera at age 48. Mária REPASZKY and Mihály SZALÁNCZY were married on 17 June 1805 in Pavlyán (Pavlány), Szepes m, HUN.120 The bride in this record was only identified as the "widow Mária." Witnesses were Matyás and András Szalánczy (spelled Salanci here). The surname used here was found on most of her children's baptismal records, though it is not absolutely certain whether that was her maiden name (the typical usage in Hungary) or her first husband's surname. While the records seem to indicate she was several years older than her husband, that was not unusual in the case of the marriage of a widow. 23. Mária REPASZKY was born about 1778. No record of her baptism could be found in the local church registers. She died on 25 July 1831 at the age of 53 in Pavlyán (Pavlány), Szepes m, HUN.121 The death record simply gives her name as Mária Szalánczy and her age as 53. Though it is likely, there is no certainty that this record is for our Mária. Although not indicated in the death record, she may have been one of the earlier victims of the 1831 cholera pandemic of August-September 1831. This surname is spelled Repesky or Repazsky. In keeping with our practice, the standard Hungarian spelling found in the church registers is used here. Children were:
