Fourth Generation8. Nz. János BERECZ was born on 5 October 1790 in Alsóság, Vas m, HUN.42 Godparents were: János Somogyi and Judit Hema, and Matyás Mannsdorfer and Éva Bavarus. He died on 17 March 1858 at the age of 67 in Szergény, Vas m, HUN.43 He died at age 68 of "vizkór" (edema). He was buried at Szergény on March 20 by Jósef Varju, the Lutheran pastor at Marcalgergély. He was an evangelical teacher at Zánka in Veszprém megye from about 1810-1820; in Szepezd on Lake Balaton in Zala megye from about 1820-1827; and at Szergény in Vas megye from about 1827. In 1855, at the time his daughter Mária married, he was identified as a landowner at Szergény #20 -- therefore, he presumably had already retired from teaching. There is no direct evidence in the record that the János Berecz born in 1790 (to János Berecz and Julianna Nagy) and the "distinguished teacher" of Zánka, János Berecz identified in his marriage records of 1810 and 1819, are the same person. This is the case because neither marriage record give his age or the name of his parents. But, there is a preponderance of "family tradition" that János -- the first in an unbroken line of six generations of Evangelical teachers -- was the brother of Márton. This was documented in the Zsámboki family tree produced in the 1930's by Lajos Zsámboki (1885-1981) who was the great-grandson of Márton and lived his early years in Ság with many relatives who knew and remembered both Márton and János. The information given in his death record also is consistent with a 1790 birth. Ns. Katalin GÁNCS and Nz. János BERECZ were married on 2 February 1819 in Nemesdömölk, Vas m, HUN.44 They were married by the assistant pastor József Kis. 9. Ns. Katalin GÁNCS was born on 23 September 1798 in Alsómesteri, Vas m, HUN.45 She died on 23 August 1874 at the age of 75 in Alsómesteri, Vas m, HUN.46 She died at age 76 of senility. She is identified as the widow of János Berecz, former teacher in Szergény. She was buried on Aug 25 in the Alsómester cemetery, with her son József (the teacher in Ság) conducting the service.
