Fifth Generation16. Gaspar RIERA CONFITÉ was born (date unknown). The RIERA-ARENAS Family. While somewhat conjectural, the data consistently suggests this hypothesis: that two Riera brothers from Mataró (near Barcelona) married two Arenas sisters, and that two sons of Josep and one of Gaspar all emigrated to Ponce, Puerto Rico. Their maternal uncles, Salvatore and Juan Arenas, likely went to Ponce first. We believe that other Riera and Arenas family members who also went to Ponce, and lived there for a time. This hypothesis cannot be confirmed without examining the records of Mataró in detail, which are not available on microfilm in the U.S. 17. Unknown wife of Gaspar [RIERA] was born (date unknown).
