12. [Great-grandfather] MURPHY was born (date unknown). Neither his given name, nor his wife's name are known at this time. The birth order of their children is also unknown. This Murphy family originated in Macroon, Ireland and presumably emigrated to the U.S. in the 1850s.

Children were:

	i.	Edward MURPHY was born (date unknown). He was involved in shipping to the Confederates during the Civil War. Later, he was a journalist in San Francisco and died there.
	ii.	Maria MURPHY was born (date unknown). She married a man named MOORE, and they had a daughter May MOORE.
	iii.	Thomas MURPHY was born (date unknown). He returned to Ireland.
	iv.	Richard MURPHY was born (date unknown). He was a sailor and died at sea.
6	v.	John MURPHY.
	vi.	Julia MURPHY was born (date unknown). She emigrated to Australia.
	vii.	Catherine MURPHY died after 1944 in San Francisco, CA. Leo Loomie visited with her and her husband in 1944, at the time he was "shipping out" for Okinawa.
