Eighth Generation240. [Progenitor] NAGY LÖRINCZ was born about 1675. The first three generations of this family line are a work in progress. This "progenitor" may be one or more men born in the second half of the 1600s. For this analysis, we assume a single man who fathered the three "Nagy Lörincz brothers" of Szentivanfa. These are known individuals, probably born about 1700, who were producing children in the 1730s and 1740s when the first extant church registers were recorded. These three men were all Lutherans. It appears that our direct ancestor in this line was Lutheran. But, there were other Nagy Lörincz families in Szentivánfa and nearby villages, and some of them were Roman Catholic. All are likely related to us in some manner. István, Ferenc, and Pál Nagy Lörincz were all Lutheran peasant farmers who lived in the village of Szentivánfa, Vas megye in the first half of the 1700s. During the decades of the 1730s and 1740s, their wives -- who are also all known from the records -- were of childbearing age. Note that the Lutheran churches in the area were closed through most of the 1700s, and therefore the baptisms of all the children in the area (whether Catholic or Protestant) was usually done at the nearest Roman Catholic church in the village of Vámoscsalád. Other Szentivánfa men of this generation, who are known and probably are related to us, are also shown here. An "Unknown" male member of this generation is hypothesized as a holding place for Nagy Lörincz children born during the 1720-1750 period whose parentage is as yet indeterminate. Another "Unknown" male of of the subsequent generation is also hypothesized as a holding place for the Nagy Lörincz children of indeterminate parentage born in roughly the 1750-1775 period, whose fathers were likely born before 1730. Some of the children of the unknowns may be siblings, many are likely cousins, or some may even be from an earlier generation. Others may be from other unrelated Nagy families. Listed as children here are all the Nagy and Lörintz people of Szentivánfa, Ivánegerszeg, and Terestyénfa found in the Vámoscsalád church records for the period 1731-1785 and the Uraiújfalu church records of 1783-1800. The focus is on people who were probably born before1775. Nagy being so common a name, most children of that name born in Uraiújfalu or Vámoscsalád are excluded unless some link to Szentivánfa is apparent or the family name Lörincz is used. Children were:
