76. Richard "Dick" SIMMONS was born (date unknown). None of the Simmons family described in Heinegg's "Free African-Americans of North Carolina and Virginia" seem to have any connection to Halifax County.

There are two Dick Simmons' found in Faucett Township in US Censuses of the post-Civil War era ... a black man born in 1835 and a mulatto man born in 1840. Both married and had families after the war. It's impossible to tell which one (if either) fathered Bill Simmons in the antebellum period.
