47. Callie SMITH was born in May 1864 in NC. According to the 1900 US Census, she was a widow of a man named Thorpe (spelled Tharp in one place). She had given birth to ten children, with seven daughters (Eliza being the eldest) and one son still living ... the youngest being only five months old. There she was also identified as a farmer in South Whittaker Township in Nash County. Her next door neighbor was William B. "Ben" Cozart who she married in 1907. Several of Callie's children who are listed with the surname "Thorpe" in 1900 were probably fathered by Cozart. There were also four children born between 1900 and 1907 who are theirs. It is from the "Cozart-Tharp" marriage record that we find her parents' names.
