8. Jesse James PIERCE was born on 8 September 1900 in NC. He died on 24 June 1970 at the age of 69 in Roanoke Rapids, NC. In 1920 he and his two sisters were living with their grandparents on a farm in Faucett Township. By 1930, he apparently took over his grandfather's farm.
Viola "Iola" BOBBITT and Jesse James PIERCE were married on 17 October 1920 in Faucett Twsp, Halifax Cty, NC. The marriage register gives their names as Jesse Pierce and Viola Edmonds. They were married by Justice of the Peace R.G. Green. The witnesses were Levander Simmons and Minerva Hawkins, both relatives.

9. Viola "Iola" BOBBITT was born on 22 May 1902 in Halifax County, NC. All the records at the time of her death gave this birthdate. But all the census records (1910-1940) indicate a birth year of 1904. She died on 16 August 1979 at the age of 77 in Roanoke Rapids, NC. In her marriage record and daughter Estelle's death record, her given name is listed as Viola, in most other places it is Iola. In her children's birth records she gave her maiden name as Iola Bobbitt. But, beginning with the 1920 census, she is sometimes referred to as Iola Edmonds ... presumably "adopted" by her step-father. Since her sisters stayed with their grandparents, while she went with her mother and step-brother to live with Edmonds, there may be some questions about her paternity.

Children were:

	i.	Jessie Mae PIERCE was born on 5 August 1921 in Halifax County, NC. She died on 13 July 1993 at the age of 71 in Roanoke Rapids, NC. She was buried in Piney Grove Baptist Church cemetery. She married a man with the surname Gatling.
	ii.	Lorena PIERCE was born on 25 January 1923 in Halifax County, NC. She died on 18 June 1928 at the age of 5 in Weldon, NC. This death record raises some questions: her name is given as Levonia, and the mother's name as Iola Sumers.
4	iii.	Haywood Dudley PIERCE.
	iv.	John Otis PIERCE was born on 22 September 1929 in Darlington, NC. He died on 17 January 1942 at the age of 12 in Halifax County, NC.
	v.	Bloomer Estelle PIERCE was born on 8 December 1930 in Darlington, NC. She died on 6 August 1993 at the age of 62 in Roanoke Rapids, NC. In the NC birth index, her first name is given as "Burmer" and in the death index as "Bloomer". In the 1940 census her name is given as Estelle, which is what she presumably used throughout her life. She married a man with the surname Thompson.
	vi.	Linwood PIERCE was born on 9 May 1936 in Faucett Twsp, Halifax Cty, NC. He died on 12 October 1938 at the age of 2 in Faucett Twsp, Halifax Cty, NC. The NC Birth Index has his given name as "Lenwood" and the Death Index as "Linwood".
