Eighth Generation248. [Progenitor] SÖRÖS was born (date unknown). The spelling of this family's name evolved from Sörös (also Söröss, Szörös or Szeres) to Seres in the late 18th century with the general "sound shift" then taking place in the Hungarian language. The older generations (ie. generations 1-3 shown here) appear to have used the earlier spelling until their deaths. Persons firmly identified in the generation of the children of György Sörös (ie. generation 4) and subsequent generations are shown here with the newer spelling. This Sörös "progenitor" is hypothesized to facilitate the organization of the known early data about the family. Early records show several Seres family members producing children primarily in the period 1715-1740. These are grouped in Generation 2 (ie. children of the progenitor). We don't know how they are related, and there is no evidence they are all siblings, they are simply shown that way here for purposes of completeness. Generation 3 (ie. grandchildren of the progenitor) is a grouping of Seres family members producing children primarily in the 1735-1765 period. The members of this generation whose parents are presently unknown are, for now, shown with a "Generic Gen 2 Parent" -- as with the previous generation, there is no evidence they are siblings. A "Generic Gen 3 Parent" is also used for family members who are "loose ends" in Generation 4. All other relationships shown are demonstrable from the church registers. It is important to note that since the family was of the Reformed faith, they may have used Reformed churches in other area towns (Öcsény, Décs, Fadd, Dunaszentgyörgy, or Szeremle) that were still functioning during the century of Protestant repression for events that could be planned, such as marriages and the baptisms of healthy children.
