10. Jeremiah C. FOLEY Sr. was born in 1818 in Ireland. His birthdate ... implied from census records and his tombstone ... varies from 1813 to 1819. He died on 8 May 1875 at the age of 57 in Elmira, NY. Some of the information about the Foley family comes from St. Peter and St. Paul Roman Catholic cemetery in Elmira, NY -- where the family plot is located. Jerry Foley bought this plot in 1864.

According to the NY State Census of 1865, he was a naturalized US citizen, employed as a mason in Elmira, who owned his own home ... a frame house worth $1400. In the 1870 US Census, the family was living in Susquehanna County, PA. "Jerry" was listed as a 56-year-old US citizen and "stone mason" with a $4000 home and $1000 personal estate. Catherine MCELLIGOTT and Jeremiah C. FOLEY Sr. were married in 1850.

11. Catherine MCELLIGOTT was born in August 1825 in Ireland. She died on 19 June 1906 at the age of 80 in New York, NY. She was buried at St. Peter and Paul's Cemetery in Elmira. She came to the US in 1849. According to the 1880 US Census, she was a widow living at 717 Columbia Street in Elmira with ten of her children, including widowed daughter Ann, and Ann's three children. In 1892 she was still living in Elmira. In the 1900 census she was living in Manhattan with sons John and Jerry, and daughter Jennie.

In earlier websites and writings, we gave her maiden name incorrectly as Carroll ... it is almost certainly McElligott. Note that we find in the 1870 US Census a George McElligott living with Catherine's family ... perhaps a nephew. In various records this surname is also spelled McElliott and McEllicott.

	ii.	Mary FOLEY was born in 1853 in Owego, Tioga Cty, NY. She died in 1886 at the age of 33 in Elmira, NY. She may be the Mary P. Foley buried in St. Peter and Paul Cemetery in Elmira. In 1880, she was an unmarried "tailoress" living at home with her mother.
	iii.	Margaret FOLEY was born in May 1855 in Owego, Tioga Cty, NY. She died on 18 February 1921 at the age of 65 in New York, NY. She was widowed at the time of her death, and was buried in the Foley family plot in St. Peter and Paul Cemetery in Elmira. In 1880, she was an unmarried "tailoress" living at home with her mother. Later, she married a man named McGINTY, and they adopted a daughter named Alberta.
	iv.	John FOLEY was born in March 1860 in Owego, Tioga Cty, NY. He died in 1928 at the age of 68 in New York. He is likely the John R. Foley buried in St. Peter and Paul Cemetery in Elmira. In 1880, he was a 20 year-old "stone cutter" living at home with his mother in Elmira. In 1900 he was unmarried, living with his mother in NYC, and is listed as a stenographer.
	v.	Ellen "Nellie" FOLEY was born in 1861 in Owego, Tioga Cty, NY. She died in 1938 at the age of 77 in New York, NY. In 1880 she was a "dress maker" living at home with her mother. She married a man named CONWAY. She was known to the family as "Aunt Nell" and later lived in the 152nd Street household with Marion Loonie Hauver.
	vi.	Stephen FOLEY was born in April 1862 in Owego, Tioga Cty, NY. He died on 3 February 1885 at the age of 22 in Elmira, NY. He died at age 23, about the time of the birth of the first Leo Stephen. As a result, his name was used as the middle name of his nephew. In 1880, he was a 16-year-old "laborer" living at home with his mother.
	vii.	Jeremiah Carroll FOLEY was born in November 1864 in Owego, Tioga Cty, NY. He died on 19 February 1944 at the age of 79 in New York, NY. In the 1900 census, he was living with his mother and is listed as a bicycle maker. In 1910, he was an electrician living with his stepbrother. "Uncle Jerr" owned the garage on 174th Street and Grand Concourse in the Bronx, which in later years his nephew Raymond Loonie managed for him.
	viii.	Katherine "Kate" FOLEY was born in 1868 in Owego, Tioga Cty, NY. She died on 2 May 1894 at the age of 26 in Elmira, NY. She died at age 26.
	ix.	Genevieve B. "Jennie" FOLEY was born in November 1869 in Owego, Tioga Cty, NY. She died on 1 September 1939 at the age of 69 in New York, NY. "Aunt Jenny" was mentally retarded, never married, and dedicated her life to keeping house for her family.
	x.	Alice FOLEY was born in 1871 in Susquehanna County, PA. She died in 1949 at the age of 78 in New York, NY. In 1910, she was employed as a stenographer. Jim Cogan and "Sweet Alice" -- as she was known -- lived on West 152nd Street in Manhattan with Marion Loonie Hauver, following the latter's divorce.
