Fifth Generation

24. József OSZTRÓVSZKY144,145 was born in 1749. He died on 1 November 1807 at the age of 58 in Vittencz, Nyitra m, HUN.146 He died at age 58 and in the death record was identified as a "Libertinus" -- freedman, presumably freed of his feudal obligations. He was listed as an "inquilini" (farm laborer) until 1785, after which he was identified as a "colonus" (peasant farmer) and "lanius" (butcher) living at house #16 in Vittencz. Mária KLESÓ and József OSZTRÓVSZKY were married on 4 February 1781 in Verbó, Nyitra m, HUN.147 In this marriage record, the bride's surname was listed as Kleso and the witnesses were Joseph Kleso and George Miklosska.

No record of the groom's birth was found in Vittencz. Therefore, it's likely he was from elsewhere (probably a nearby village), married in their hometown, and later moved to Vittencz to establish their butchering business in this sheep-raising center.

25. Mária KLESÓ was born on 30 May 1751 in Verbó, Nyitra m, HUN.148 She died on 1 January 1810 at the age of 58 in Vittencz, Nyitra m, HUN.149 In the death record she is identified as the widow of Jozsef Osztrovszky, and her age is given as 63 (which is off by a few years compared to what we believe is her baptismal record). Her given name is recorded both as Mária and Márianna; and her family name is also spelled Kles, Klesek and Klesko.

Imre OSZTRÓVSZKY was born on 29 August 1783 in Vittencz, Nyitra m, HUN.150 János Reder, a baker, and his wife Katalin Miskei were godparents. He died on 30 November 1857 at the age of 74 in Malaczka, Pozsony m, HUN.151 He died at age 75 and was buried in the crypt of St. Francis by Vice Arch Deacon Antonius Markovits. Imre Osztróvszky was a Roman Catholic priest, who served for 14 years in Pernek and then 31 years in Malaczka, northwest of Pozsony. The link of this man to our family is the report that the younger Joseph Osztróvszky visited him for quiet study while he was pursuing his legal credentials at the Pozsony Law Academy between 1836 and 1840. According to the records of the archdiocese of Esztergom, in 1838-39, Father Imre was district dean of the market town of Malaczka, inspector of Catholic schools, and a judge of the county court. Ruszoly identified him as an uncle of the elder Joseph Osztróvszky, but his death record makes it rather clear that he was a member of the elder Joseph's generation.
