Ancestors of Gyula Gábor József Heszlényi
Vic's maternal grandfather, Julius Heszlenyi, seemingly told his children here in America some tall tales about his life and family in Hungary prior to his emigration. But, what was true is that he was from a prominent, wealthy family who were real "movers-and-shakers" in Hungary's second city ... Szeged ... during the 19th century. After coming to America, he lived a quiet and humble life. Many in New York's emigre Hungarian community saw him as the epitome of the cultured European gentleman. Here's his family's story. |
