Fifth Generation

18. János HOCZKICZKO was born on 13 May 1785 in Szent Lörincz (Brutovce), Szepes m, HUN.103 He died on 9 October 1853 at the age of 68 in Szent Lörincz (Brutovce), Szepes m, HUN.104 The death register identifies the two János Kiczko's as living in house numbers 31 and 55. Unfortunately, none of the earlier records give a house number. The two John's, according to the register, died respectively on 15Sep1852 at age 66, and 09Oct1853 at age 70. All that is clear about this ancestor is that there were two János Hoczkiczko's born in Brutovce within months of each other, and they were almost certainly cousins. They both married women named Anna, who were both 18 at the time of these marriages in November 1807. The two men died about a year apart in the 1850s. These similarities in their lives makes it impossible to even guess which of the two John's was the father of our Anna Hoczkiczko.

To preserve all the relevant data, we have arbitrarily assigned Mihály Hoczkiczko and Zsuzsanna Januska as our ancestor's parents and have listed Matyás Hoczkiczko as the brother of Mihály, which was almost certainly the case. In this way both János Hoczkiczko's are in the database, though we are unsure which one is actually our ancestor. Anna MICHELKO and János HOCZKICZKO were married on 2 November 1807 in Szent Lörincz (Brutovce), Szepes m, HUN.105 The record says the bride was 18 years old; the groom 20. Both were Roman Catholics from Brutovce. Witnesses were Pál Michelyko and Mihály Hoczkiczko.

There were two weddings of a János Hoczkiczko and an Anna within two weeks of each other in November 1807. The same witnesses were used at both weddings, therefore the grooms almost certainly were cousins. Since, our ancestor Anna Hoczkiczko's birth record does not give the maiden name of her mother, there is a possibility of error in identifying the couple who are her parents, but that is unlikely. Anna Michelko (rather than Anna Kajbak) was given the attribution because the three persons identified here as her children all had Pál Béress as their godfather, making it very likely they were siblings.

19. Anna MICHELKO was born on 2 May 1791 in Szent Lörincz (Brutovce), Szepes m, HUN.98 There is no certainty that this record is of the birth of our Anna, but this date is more consistent with the date of death we attribute to her. [The other record for for an Anna Michelko indicates she was born 5 May 1792 to Mathias Michelko and Susanna Dvorszky. It is possible that the Anna born in 1791 and died along with her mother, Mathias remarried, and had this second Anna a year later. But a more likely scenario is that there were two Mathias Michelko's. Further investigation is possible.] She died on 23 April 1815 at the age of 23 in Szent Lörincz (Brutovce), Szepes m, HUN.106 Since the death record does not give her maiden name, it is uncertain which of the two Anna's who were married to János Hoczkiczko's died on this date. But, since we find no further children for Anna Michelko, it seems reasonable to identify this as her death.
