112. [Progenitor] PÁLFI was born (date unknown). Our line of Pálfi's spelled their name Páfi in the 18th century and later it evolved to the current spelling. Our Pálfi ancestors do not seem to be related to the aristocratic families of the same name -- who often spelled the name Pálffy -- although they were possibly peasants on one of their estates in the area. Aided by the reforms of Joseph II in the 1780s, our ancestor Mihály Pálfi (born 1792) moved from the child of a poor peasant to becoming a prosperous landowner.

Whether the early Pálfi residents of Beled listed below are actually brothers is conjectural. But, they were very likely related.

56	i.	Péter PÁLFI.
	ii.	Mihály PÁLFI was born in 1712 in Beled, Sopron m, HUN. He died on 15 January 1802 at the age of 90 in Beled, Sopron m, HUN.³²⁷ He died at age 90. There is no certainty that the same Mihály Pálfi was the husband of both Katalin Buti and Zsuzsanna Gala, but the dates of the children's births, and the fact that we know he was a widower when he married Gala, would seem to indicate that this hypothesis is correct.
	iii.	István PÁLFI was born about 1719 in Beled, Sopron m, HUN.
