Seventh Generation

80. Henry HUNT was born about 1810 in Virginia. We first find Henry and his family listed in the 1840 census of Northampton County as "Free Colored Persons." According to Heinegg, there were numerous free people of color named Hunt in Northampton County, NC. It doesn't appear that we can trace his ancestry back further using Heinegg's work.

According to the 1850 US Census, Henry was a "mulatto" born in Virginia. His occupation was painting. His wife Sylvia is listed in the 1850 census as "black" and born in North Carolina, but in later years she is listed as a mulatto born in Virginia. While we have no conclusive proof that Henry and Sylvia are the parents of our James, it seems very likely since they all lived their lives in Northampton County and the only alternative parents are a Peter Hunt and his wife Sally of Granville County. Sylvia "Sibey" HILL and Henry HUNT were married on 11 January 1833 in Northhampton County, NC. There were at least eight children of this marriage. In their later years they lived with their two unmarried daughters, Elizabeth and Luvenia (Lucy). Both Henry and Sibey died after 1880.

81. Sylvia "Sibey" HILL was born about 1810 in North Carolina. She died before 1880.
