Jake Berecz

This is an initial effort to introduce you to our first grandchild, Jake Berecz. Jake was born at the Norwalk Hospital at 9:56PM on Sunday, April 7, 2002. He weighed 8 lbs 7 oz at birth and was 21 1/2 inches long. He is the son of Steve Berecz and Illya Wiggins -- our son and daughter-in-law. He is blessed to have four living great-grandparents and three grandparents. Regretably, one of his grandmothers -- Adrienne Loomie Wiggins -- can only look down on him from ahigh. What she ... and we ... see is a beautiful little baby boy who we love very much.

This webpage shows a series of photos of Jake during the first four days of his life. It does that from his paternal family's point-of-view -- because that's who we are. But, I'm sure Illya's family will also contribute by using Web-based platforms for our mutual enjoyment. So, here's Jake:

Below are some pictures of Jake. We hope you enjoy them.

My dad's nickname was "Bear" ...
so my hat's appropriate!

Here's the family on my birthday ...
they still seem to be in shock.

But soon, my mom could manage
a well-deserved smile ... she did good.
The big yawn.
In the hospital, life's easy ...
just one big yawn!
Lulu meets Jake.
But as soon as I get home ...
I get sniffed and licked.
Lulu wants attention too.
Hey, I'm still your only grand-dog ...
how come you're not petting me?
Jake and his grandmother's basinette.
Oma slept there, my Dad slept there ...
and now I'm gonna sleep there.

she says just call me GiGiMa!

is she old enough to be called Oma?
Steve's aunt Janet and Jake.
Janet Ann Luhrs ... why do they
want me to call her Auntie Mame?
Lulu exploring.
So this is where you hide ...
can I join you?

... and I guess a picture of the old Nudge should be on Jake's webpage too!

G-G-G-G-Grandpa Jake's Waterloo Medal.

You may wonder where the name Jake came from. Simply said, it was the choice of his parents ... as all children's names should be. But, being rather devoted to the study of our family history, I'd like to think that Jake's great-great-great-great-grandfather, whose name was Jacob Rotermund, may have influenced the choice. That may or may not be the case. I have declined to ask because, as I said, "I'd like to think ..."     In any event, Jake's gggg-grandfather fought in the Battle of Waterloo in 1815 as part of the Verden Militia Batalion of the 4th Hanoverian Brigade. He was awarded a medal of valor by the Duke of Wellington for his efforts. We have that medal and someday, we hope, Jake will enjoy owning it.

By the way, in case you're wondering, Jake's middle name is Victor-John. That name is in memory of his two paternal great-grandfathers who passed away in recent years. Here are their photos.
